Superovulation Intra-Uterine Insemination (SOIUI) combines two procedures IUI and SO together to improve chances of conception.

IUI involves placing specially-prepared sperm directly into the uterus; SO is the process of stimulating several ovarian follicles or eggs to develop and ovulate using fertility medication.

This treatment is suitable for couples experiencing mild male infertility, mild endometriosis, cervical factor infertility, unexplained infertility and after several failed clomiphene (oral ovulation medication) cycles. The female patient should have patent fallopian tubes and the male should have a supply of reasonably healthy sperm.

First, fertility medication is given to stimulate ovarian follicles. Ultrasound scans are used at close intervals to determine the number and size of eggs within the ovary. Once one to three egg follicles are mature, insemination of sperm is done just prior to the time of ovulation. On the day of the insemination (IUI), the husband is required to produce fresh semen at our fertility centre. The semen then undergoes special preparation and an enhanced healthy portion is inseminated into the uterus via a fine catheter.

After the insemination, the patient will be given hormonal medications to improve the chances of implantation and pregnancy. The patient should return to our clinic 14 to 17 days after the insemination procedure for a pregnancy test.

The success rate of a SOIUI procedure is about 14 to 15% per attempt and is largely dependent on the woman’s age and sperm quality.

From routine women’s health needs to complex medical issues, our clinic is here to support you.
