Birth Plan & Delivery

A birth plan, as implied by the name, is a written outline of what you would like to happen during labour and delivery. A birth plan differs from woman to woman and some of the considerations include:

  • The setting you want to give birth in
  • Personnel(s) you want to have with you
  • Pain-relief used during delivery
  • Mode of delivery

Once you have an outline of the events, we encourage you to go over this plan with us. We will help you keep the plan realistic in case there are any conflicts with hospital policies and may suggest ways to keep it flexible so changes can be made based on events that may arise during labour and delivery.

Delivery

The three modes of delivery are vaginal delivery, assisted vaginal delivery and caesarean section. Most women give birth to their babies through the vaginal route but some may need a bit of help and this is when the forceps or vacuum cups can be used. In certain circumstances, a caesarean birth may be deemed to be the safest option.

Some women who have had a caesarean section before can have a vaginal birth in a later pregnancy. It is however not the right choice for all women as there are some risks involved. Our gynaecologist & obstetrician will gladly discuss if the feasibility of a vaginal birth after a caesarean section (VBAC) is a safe option for you.

Although we cater to women who would wish for natural birth without any pain relief, we do acknowledge that tolerance of labour pain varies with each individual and so it is best to keep an open mind to all forms of pain-relief (without the need to feel guilty about it). For women who are concerned about pain, rest assured that we at GynaeMD Women’s & Rejuvenation Clinic are strong advocates of pain-free labour. We will be delighted to discuss with you the various options available so that you can participate in the birth of your baby without discomfort. We will also gladly assist you in making arrangements for a doula if you so desire.

From routine women’s health needs to complex medical issues, our clinic is here to support you.
