Fetal Anomaly Scan
The vast majority of babies are healthy but there is a small chance of delivering a baby with birth defects. Performed between 19 to 24 weeks of the pregnancy, a fetal anomaly scan detects up to 90% of significant structural abnormalities. Some of these are isolated structural abnormalities but others may be associated with chromosomal abnormalities.
This detailed ultrasound scan is used to diagnose structural abnormalities in the baby by examining the baby’s anatomy, checking the fetal growth, assessing placental position and cervical status.
Special attention is paid to the brain, face, spine, heart, lungs, stomach, bowel, kidneys and limbs.
